In 2005, a new chapter in the Precious Moments story began, as the collection “came home” to join the rest of the Precious Moments family at Precious Moments, Incorporated. Furthermore, since its opening in 1989, Precious Moments Park in Carthage, Missouri has welcomed approximately 400,000 visitors every year. Members of collector's clubs continue to be found throughout the world. The collection is now thousands of pieces, with new introductions offered each year. The success of the Precious Moments figurines was amazing, yet Sam never lost touch with his original purpose to create art which combined his heartfelt emotions with his abiding faith. Less than a year after their introduction, demand was overwhelming. People began to write to Sam, telling him about how the Precious Moments figurines had touched their lives in a moving and heartfelt way. The response to the collection was incredible. It was the beginning of a phenomenon for both Sam and the gift industry.īy the end of 1978, the "Original 21" Precious Moments figurines were introduced to the market. Shortly thereafter, Sam was approached by Enesco Corporation to develop a three-dimensional figurine based on his artwork titled “Love One Another.” Sam was so overwhelmed when he saw the first porcelain sample, he fell to his knees and wept. Their tiny booth was filled with enthusiastic retailers wanting to order the new line and the crowd became so large, neighboring vendors came over to help the two young men write orders. They took their goods to the annual Christian Booksellers Association Convention in Anaheim, California. In the early 1970s, Sam and a friend, Bill Biel, started a small company to produce his Precious Moments art on a line of cards and posters, calling their company Jonathan & David. His dedication earned him a scholarship to the College of Arts & Crafts in Berkeley. Encouraged by his mother, he pursued formal art training following his high school graduation. Today, his Precious Moments artwork is among the most recognized art in the world, sharing messages of loving, caring and sharing with collectors from around the globe.Ī man of deep personal faith and conviction, Sam demonstrated artistic talent at an early age. It began more than three decades ago, when Precious Moments® creator, Sam Butcher, began drawing the endearing teardrop-eyed children he called "Precious Moments," as gifts for family and friends.

After that, I ended up working 3 more years and then consulting for another 3. When I got close to thinking I was ready to wrap it up, I looked to see if the numbers worked. If someone is basing their 'number' on an already conservative withdrawal rate like 4%, why should they keep working another five years after they reach this number? They want insurance on top of insurance? The steps of my OSWAN plan are listed below, obviously this plan is not for everyone for an assortment of reasons but I would appreciate feedback from those who have stayed in the workplace even after achieving Financial Independence.ġ) You should schedule your retirement date for 5 years after you hit your number (probably 3-5 years is fine)Ģ) You should adjust your AA to the most conservative level you plan to hit the month after hitting your number (this excludes the AA you could have when you believe you have less than 10 years remaining)ģ) All additional contributions to your retirement accounts should be at an aggressive AA between 70/30 and 100/0 giving you the strong possibility of a rising glidepath over the last 5 years of your worklifeĤ) For the remainder of your worklife you do not rebalance one dime out of equities since you have hit your number, your AA is set at most conservative level your plan to have, your expenses are covered by your salary and are continuing to make retirement contributions that in theory are in excess of your needĥ) You have a minimum of 10 years of expenses in low risk Fixed Income assets on the day you retire (the number of years could be higher for those who retire very early in life) Having had this experience I have come up with some thoughts about what might be an Optimum Sleep Well At Night retirement plan for those who don't feel the need to check out the day they hit their number. As of this post, I am sitting at 139% of my number plus I have cut 33 months off the length of my potential retirement (I consider that a plus, others I am sure will see it as a minus). I finally decided to do OMY twice and now have permanently put retirement on hold while I focus on the fact I am Financially Independent. Just as a matter of background I hit my number, actually 102.3% of my number, on and struggled with the decision on whether or not to retire for many months. Look at the shape of the cranberry highlights. Here’s a closeup of the photo reference for the center cranberry in my Festive Cranberry class. This extra effort pays off because students get more realistic results. When I teach realistic highlighting in advanced classes, I show how to do things the painterly way. The problem comes when you’re still using the same simple highlight technique two years later. Students follow the instructions and end up with passable highlights. I’ve used these shortcuts myself in beginner classes, telling students “the key to easy highlighting is to always keep your highlights in the upper left or all in the upper right corner.” White comma shaped highlights don’t look realīecause real highlights don’t look like white commas.Īnd if you spend any amount of time observing highlights in real life, you’ll quickly notice that highlights are not always in the top right corner of an object, they’re not C shaped, and they’re not white. Later, many colorers with artistic instincts start to realize how fake and flat gel pen highlights look, so they sometimes graduate to making softer highlight oval shapes with white pencil.īut there’s the catch… soft white pencil highlights look better than gel pen highlights but they still don’t look realistic. It doesn’t look real but it’s cute for small cartoon stamps. When colorers first learn to blend with Copic Markers or colored pencils, the easiest way for an instructor to teach glossy highlights is to have everyone grab a white gel pen and make little comma shapes in the top right corner of everything. If you’re someone who aspires to artistic level coloring, you can’t expect beginner highlighting shortcuts to look real. If you like the look, keep doing it!Īnd white gel pen looks great in stylized cartooning- genres such as manga and heroic comic illustration.īut don’t kid yourself that it looks real. There’s nothing wrong with white gel pen highlights for casual coloring. Look, if you’re someone who colors for fun or relaxation, then this article is not for you. Plus, I’ll offer tips on how to better approach highlights in your next marker or pencil project. Today, let’s look at why the white gel pen highlighting techniques taught in stamp coloring classes hamper your artistic growth. If you’re coloring cranberries with the same technique you also used on a fuzzy brown bear or a prickly pine tree…Īnd if you’re using the white gel pen highlight technique on everything? Shortcuts lead you into the mindless coloring trap where everything you color starts to look the same. I don’t teach handy-dandy step-by-step coloring techniques because they’re shortcuts. When in reality, I don’t teach techniques. My class projects look different than regular stamp coloring… I think people assume Vanilla Arts projects look different because I’m teaching different techniques. If you’ve never taken one of my Copic Marker or colored pencil classes, you may not realize how different they are than the average coloring class. And then there is that pesky matter of keeping the kids from sticking their hands in the flames and wanting to play in the hot wax. Smells are often too strong for many men (especially the “girly” ones), so we battle a bit about what candles we should use in the home. I love a good-smelling candle just as much as any gal, but my hubs is a bit resistant to the notion. Welcome back, u/Wombblast! Let's review some of your work: You'll find her when you really start your journey through life. Live out your life for yourself and not for some lanky girl. There's literally beauties like the salt flats of Boliva in this world that's worlds better than the girl who's made bad relationship choices. Maybe you're looking at the trashy girls, maybe you've experienced a rejection that was pretty terrible, maybe you've struggled to establish yourself in a society that keeps knocking you down. Trash sticks with trash is what I'm saying and if you put out a bitter persona who is demanding of a relationship, you either are going to get a nasty partner who is the exact same (which will further mess up your perception of a relationship) or stay alone due to the fact that most do not want to be demanded into a miserable relationship.Ħ) Something is making you bitter and a bitter life is a lonely one. What person doesn't want someone who is able to love them so passionately but also won't take no crap for anyone or anything and is willing to fight to protect? If not, maybe they can't escape the bad boy because he's an abusive butthole who will kill his partner if they try to leave.ĥ) Do you also realize that any potential bitterness is sensed by the people around you? It's also the reason why really desperate people don't find good partners they get scared of being alone, get desperate, that desperation pushes away any good partners and boom, you get a bad relationship. Usually bad boys are tough, i-dont-give-a-crap and passionate. That's the charm that's absolutely irresistible to me.Ĥ) Break down the psychology of the bad boys and what makes him so appealing. I personally like genuine kindness, a kindness without the strings of favors or the need to impress. Charm and charisma isn't determined by their smoothness, it's determined by who they are as a person. Some like the smooth-rose-in-mouth-rolling-rr's-flirty-mcflirtflirt or the dianty-hand-to-mouth-with-a-small-gentle-gasp and some like when they see their potential partner lovingly play with a kitten. Some gals like bad boys, some dudes like bad girls, some gals like sweet guys, some dudes like sweet girls, some gals like butts and some dudes like chests.ģ) Charisma for one person isn't always the same for another. Just like not all men like the same type of girl. Sometimes it does ease our worries, sometimes it results in confirmation bias.Ģ) Not all women like the same type of guy. That's just how we are as humans, we expect and expect hoping that it'll ease the uncertainties of the future. Some girls wait for their prince charming, some guys expect to be able to catch a damsel from falling to the ground. And itn that case, You are the problem, not females.ġ) We all have unrealistic expectations, bud. If your idea if chatting with the opposite sex is hey your hot let's fuck here is a dick pick validate me, then yeah you will never get a gf. Unless you have extreme social anxiety which is different. You literally need no more charisma than hey how are you, what are your hobbies, etc which are basic social skills that all humans as a social species should have developed by now. If you are a DnD nerd write that, if you program write that, if you wood work, volunteer, etc. Get on a fucking dating site that isn't tinder which mostly only shows the attractive profiles before the average people (maybe ok cupid) and for god sakes try to make a bio with some personality that isn't the "woman don't like me cause I am not a model" incel trope. You are not getting slave girl princess Leia in your bed unless you are as shitty as Jabba(which is a crime and will land you forever in prison, which in my opinion would be a good thing) or as handsome as Han Solo. Stop being an incel and lower your fucking standards, just like everyone else in the goddamn world. Graduate student girls tend to date grad students as well or dudes with similar schooling preparations. Because you are in the same social circles, have same interests, etc.It is rare for one of my friends/coworkers to date above or below how attractive they are. Note this is not always true, but from my female stand point, it is mostly what happens. Average girls date average guys, fat girls date fat guys, and sorority girls date fraternity guys. Look at yourself in the mirror and try to see, are you really average? If you are, the fact that you aren't getting average girls is cause you are a creep. If you are not a Calvin Klein model, don't try for Victoria Secret Models. Please note that other Pearson websites and online products and services have their own separate privacy policies. Rule #3: If a RR receives a route from an EBGP peer, it advertises the route to RR client(s) and non-RR client(s).įigure 1-10 demonstrates the route reflector rules. Even the RR client that sent the advertisement receives a copy of the route, but it discards the NLRI because it sees itself as the route originator. Rule #2: If a RR receives a NLRI from a RR client, it advertises the NLRI to RR client(s) and non-RR client(s). It does not advertise the NLRI to a non-route-reflector client. Rule #1: If a RR receives a NLRI from a non-RR client, the RR advertises the NLRI to a RR client. Three basic rules involve route reflectors and route reflection: The router reflecting routes is known as a route reflector (RR), and the router receiving reflected routes is a route reflector client. RFC 1966 introduces the concept that an IBGP peering can be configured so that it reflects routes to another IBGP peer. IBGP scalability becomes an issue for large networks. A full mesh topology of 5 routers requires 10 sessions, and a topology of 10 routers requires 45 sessions. The formula n(n-1)/2 provides the number of sessions required where n represents the number of routers. The inability for BGP to advertise a prefix learned from one IBGP peer to another IBGP peer can lead to scalability issues within an AS. A trip to the city just isn’t complete without a stop at some of its great museums (many of them free), amazing monuments, and iconic historical landmarks.īut there’s also much more to Washington DC than history and politics. Home to powerhouse politics and a history that goes back hundreds of years, Washington DC offers an incredible chance to learn about how the US was born. This means that a player with a pair of "leapfrogging" pieces has an advantage over a player with two individual stragglers. It is important to understand that paired pieces move faster than single pieces in the endgame. Pieces can form a two-layer blocking wall, deflecting the opponent from the center and forcing them into a longer trajectory however, if the opponent builds an adjacent wall, then the first player to disband his wall usually suffers a strategic disadvantage. Players should also set up for the endgame (when opposing pieces have passed one another and must run for home), avoiding stragglers.Īs with most board games, early control of the center is a key tactic, as it provides additional mobility. The middle (when opposing pieces are blocking or jumping each other) is usually characterised by opportunistic play the player with the most patience to check the whole board for opportunities, including those gained by moving backwards in order to move forwards, will gain an advantage. The beginning (before opposing pieces come into contact) is usually a set-piece battle, with players setting up their favoured openings. In non-electronic versions, the number of moves is not normally counted.Ī game of Halma has three distinct phases. Fast-advancing players occasionally attempt to blockade an opposing piece, but this tactic can backfire if the other player is aware of it. Some sites implement a rule variation stating that a player automatically loses if they still have a piece in their start region after a certain number of moves (typically 30 for the 8×8 game, 50 for the 10×10 game). Halma set from the 1890s, showing box and pieces The name is misleading, since the game has no historical connection with China, nor is it a checkers game. Chinese Checkers, a variant of Halma, was originally published in 1892 as Stern-Halma (German for "Star Halma") and later renamed upon marketing to the United States to appear more exotic. The mechanic of jumping pieces is reminiscent of draughts (checkers) but differs in that no opposing pieces are ever captured or otherwise withdrawn from the board nor is jumping compulsory.Otherwise, play proceeds clockwise around the board. If the current play results in having every square of the opposing camp occupied by one's own pieces, the acting player wins.Once a piece has reached the opposing camp, a play cannot result in that piece leaving the camp. After any jump, one may make further jumps using the same piece, or end the play. The piece that was jumped over is unaffected and remains on the board.Place the piece in the empty square on the opposite side of the jumped piece. An adjacent piece of any color can be jumped if there is an adjacent empty square on the directly opposite side of that piece. One or more jumps over adjacent pieces:.Place the piece in an empty adjacent square. Each player's turn consists of moving a single piece of one's own color in one of the following plays:.Pieces can move in eight possible directions (orthogonally and diagonally).Players randomly determine who will move first.Valid (green) and invalid (red) moves of a white pawn in Halma On each turn, a player either moves a single piece to an adjacent open square, or jumps over one or more pieces in sequence. For four-player games played in teams, the winner is the first team to race both sets of pieces into opposing camps. The game is won by being first to transfer all of one's pieces from one's own camp into the camp in the opposing corner. The game is played by two or four players seated at opposing corners of the board. Piece colors are typically black and white for two-player games, and various colors or other distinction in games for four players. Pieces may be small checkers or counters, or wooden or plastic cones or men resembling small chess pawns. The gameboard is checkered and divided into 16×16 squares. His inspiration was the English game Hoppity which was devised in 1854. Halma (from the Greek word ἅλμα meaning "jump") is a strategy board game invented in 1883 or 1884 by George Howard Monks, an American thoracic surgeon at Harvard Medical School.
